How to enter your Sharesight tax reports into myTax

Sharesight's Taxable Income Report and Capital Gains Tax Report give you the figures you need to complete your Australian income tax return in myTax. This guide shows how to run each report and where each figure goes.

Note: The ATO pre-fills some investment income in myTax, but pre-fill is often incomplete or late — especially for managed funds and distributions paid close to 30 June. Always reconcile the pre-filled figures against your Sharesight reports before you lodge.

Before you start

  • Your Sharesight portfolio is up to date for the financial year (1 July – 30 June), with all dividends, distributions and trades confirmed. For ETFs and managed funds, finalised tax components may not arrive until late August/September — see ETFs in Sharesight.
  • You can access myTax through myGov linked to ATO online services.

Part 1 — Taxable Income Report → myTax

Step 1: Run the Taxable Income Report

  1. From any page, click the Tax tab.
  2. Select Taxable Income Report.
  3. Choose the financial year (1 July – 30 June).
  4. (Optional) Click Advanced options and turn on Show holding totals to see per-holding subtotals.
  5. Click Apply.

Step 2: Enter the figures into myTax

In myTax, add the relevant income sections, then transfer each total from your Taxable Income Report using the table below.

Unfranked dividends[myTax field — to confirm]

Tip: Run the report with Show holding totals on so each holding's figures are easy to check against any myTax pre-fill.

Part 2 — Capital Gains Tax Report → myTax

Step 1: Run the Capital Gains Tax Report

  1. From any page, click the Tax tab.
  2. Select Capital Gains Tax Report.
  3. Choose the financial year (1 July – 30 June).
  4. (Optional) Adjust the sale allocation method if needed.
  5. Click Apply.

Step 2: Enter the figures into myTax

Net capital gain[myTax field — to confirm]

Reconcile before you lodge

Compare your Sharesight totals against any figures myTax has pre-filled. Where they differ, your Sharesight report is based on your actual confirmed trades and distributions — but check that all data for the year is confirmed and that finalised (not estimated) tax components have come through for your ETFs and managed funds.
