How to track superannuation in Sharesight

Tracking your super in Sharesight gives a holistic view of your wealth alongside other investments, allowing you to monitor its overall growth and contribution to your asset allocation.

Australian super funds generally offer three kinds of investment option. Here’s how to track each one in Sharesight.

Jump to:

Pre-mixed (diversified) options

The most common way to invest — and usually where your fund’s default MySuper option sits. The fund’s managers choose the mix of assets (shares, property, infrastructure, bonds and cash) for a set risk level, and handle the buying, selling and rebalancing for you. Examples: Balanced, High Growth, Conservative, Indexed Diversified or Sustainable.

Most members hold a single pre-mixed option. Track it by searching the option’s code — see Find your fund below — and recording the number of units you hold.

Mix your own (single asset class) options

For members who want to set their own asset allocation without picking individual stocks. Your fund offers single-asset-class pools — e.g. Australian Shares, International Shares, Property or Cash — and you choose what percentage goes into each. The fund still selects the underlying investments within each pool; you monitor and rebalance the mix yourself.

This works the same way as a pre-mixed option, except you’ll usually hold several options at once. Add each option you hold as its own holding — search the option’s code (see Find your fund below), then enter the number of units you hold in it. Sharesight values each holding as unit price × units, so your actual split across the options is reflected automatically.

Find your fund

Both pre-mixed and single-asset-class options are tracked by searching the fund’s option code in Sharesight. Find your fund below for its option codes:

If you can’t find your option, you can add it as a custom investment.

Member Direct (direct investment) options

The most hands-on option short of an SMSF. Through a trading platform inside your super account you buy specific investments — typically S&P/ASX 300 shares, ETFs, LICs and term deposits — within the limits your fund sets (minimum balances, a minimum amount kept in other options, and caps on any single holding).

Track Member Direct holdings the same way you’d track a brokerage account: add each share, ETF or LIC to your portfolio by searching its ticker and market (for example, CBA.ASX). You don’t need a fund option code for these — they’re held directly in your name.

Note: Unit prices for super investment options come from our data provider and can lag by a few days, so the value shown in Sharesight may differ slightly from the latest figure from your super fund.
